Relaxed Family Photos at Home In Five Dock

My house is a mess and there’s a never-ending pile of laundry that I’ve named Mt Washington. But home really is where the heart is — where we nurture and care for each other, and where we feel most able to be ourselves. Home is also where so many of those big and little life memories happen. Do you remember the feeling of running under the sprinkler in the backyard, playing Monopoly with mum at the kitchen table, visits from the tooth fairy, pillow fights and jumping on the bed until everyone collapsed in a heap? I hear echoes of my childhood in my own kids’ play now and it’s quite lovely to experience this sense of nostalgia.

Taking your family photos at home offers a unique opportunity to document the really meaningful aspects of your life right now. There’s no pressure to rush out the door with all the stuff and snacks, everything is at hand and naps can happen when they need to. Don’t worry about making everything spotless and magazine-worthy — it’s not an open-home inspection. Embrace the mess or do a quick tidy up and throw everything else into a room and shut the door. Anything goes at home, it’s a place where parents can relax and kids can be kids, meltdowns included.

Getting Ready For Esther’s Birthday Party — A Relaxed Family Photoshoot

While mum and dad (both incredible chefs) were busy making an epic birthday cake for a party in the park later that day, the birthday girl and I explored the backyard together. We raked leaves, jumped on the trampoline, and raced each other. She showed me her most beloved toys and then gave an impromptu piano recital. Then we dragged dad outside for some more trampoline fun, after that we headed back inside for some quiet reading and cuddles with mum, and finally a delicious strawberry snack and some drawing.

My sessions are child-led with lots of conversation and the odd suggestion from me as to what to do next. Sometimes it’s good to have a loose plan, but it’s equally good to just go with the flow.
