Hi, I’m Verity.

I’m a Sydney family and business photographer and mum working on Gadigal land in Sydney’s Inner West. I live with my husband and my two wildlings, our cat and multiplying Spiny Leaf Insects.

When I meet people for the first time, they usually ask me about my uncommon name. Verity is derived from the Latin word “veritas,” meaning truth. In my work and my life, I value the qualities of honesty, authenticity and integrity. I like to think it’s kind of apt given I’m a photographer who documents the unscripted beauty of real life.

I have been taking photos since I was able to hold my mum’s old Olympus OM1 film camera. I grew up in an artist-run studio warehouse with a rooftop garden and a fully-functioning darkroom. I remember sitting under the glow of the red globe watching the process with deep curiosity. It was like magic when an image appeared on paper, as if summoned up out of the ether.

As a multidisciplinary creative, I have worn many hats throughout my career ranging from designer and animator to photographer. I have a B. Design (Visual Communication, Photography, 1st Class Hons ) from UTS and an almost completed Masters of Art (Photography) from College of Fine Arts, UNSW under my belt. Over the years, I have shot stills for short films and music videos, photographed weddings, corporate events, business headshots and branding photography. I have also practised and taught yoga for 15+ years.

Since becoming a mother, I am drawn to document the human condition. I’m fascinated by the profound identity shift that occurs during pregnancy and the arrival of a newborn, the highs and lows of motherhood, and the intimacy and beautiful chaos of family life. I also have a deep interest in the human body and movement in all its forms. I love photographing creative and innovative people doing things that matter. Babies, kids, parents, grandparents, friends, lovers, neighbours, yogis, artisans, business people, introverts and extroverts — whoever you are and whatever you do, I’d love to take your picture.
